Patent Policy in Genomics and Human Genetics: Epistemic Communities, Courts and the Democratic Shaping of Patent Law

Ingrid Schneider, Professor in Political Science and Senior Researcher at the Research Centre on Biotechnology, Society, and the Environment (BIOGUM) at the University of Hamburg, gives this talk on recent judgments of the Court of Justice of the EU concerning exclusions to patent eligibility in the field of genomics and human genetics.

She discusses the interaction between legislation and jurisdiction, and proposes a new perspective on the democratic shaping and public legitimacy of patent law.
