First Belt Road Initiative Summit
The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, also known as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) or One Belt, One Road (OBOR), is an ambitious project proposed by the Chairman of China Xi Jinping to connect East and the West through the creation of a new economic superhighway.
Running from Asia to Europe via Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, West Asia, and the Middle East, the trade route is intended to enhance the free flow of economic goods and the efficient allocation of resources by expanding business cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the rest of the OBOR countries and districts. The strategy underlines China's push to assume a greater role in global affairs and its ambition to boost trade and stimulate economic growth across Asia and beyond.
The purpose of the Annual Belt Road Initiative Summit is to provide a forum in which leading international scholars, practitioners, industry professionals, and policymakers can come together to present and discuss current developments concerning OBOR, the challenges facing it, and its future directions.
