Equality and Personal Responsibility in the New Social Contract

Since its earliest philosophical pronouncements, an inherent trait of the social contract is the fidelity to equality, alongside which, the contractual element of the social contract insists upon reciprocal ties between the people and the government, and amongst the people themselves.

But what is the relationship between egalitarianism and reciprocity? This workshop will address the most pertinent of social contract questions: what do we owe to each other; when are these obligations fulfilled, and when our actions are lacking?
