The Chief Economics Correspondent at the Financial Times Martin Wolf will lend his voice to the growing debate over the UK’s place in Europe later today, warning in an Oxford lecture that the eurozone crisis will cause fundamental changes in the UK’s relationship with the EU and may trigger a break-up of the UK itself.
European experts assess future of EU at Oxford debate

Honorary Director-General of the European Commission Graham Avery last night claimed that the EU will emerge stronger from the present crisis, but warned that Britain may be relegated to a secondary role in a two-tier Europe unless it acts in a more positive and energetic way, at a panel discussion organized by the Foundation for Law, Justice and Society at the University of Oxford.  
Leveson receives lesson on the 'elephant in the room'

Media expert Lara Fielden has today published a policy brief with the Foundation for Law, Justice and Society, proposing a radical new framework for press regulation based on a comparative study of international press councils, which she will put to the Leveson Inquiry later today to address what Lord Justice Leveson has described as the 'elephant in the room': regulation of online media.

Charles Clarke Joins Oxford Debate on the Role of Courts in a Democracy

The former Home Secretary Charles Clarke will appear on a select panel to debate the proper role of courts in a democracy, in an event organized by the Foundation for Law, Justice and Society (FLJS) in association with the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies at Oxford University. The debate, to be held at Magdalen College, Oxford on 11th February, will be chaired by the BBC Presenter and renowned Legal Commentator Joshua Rozenberg, and will also feature Lord Justice Jacob, as well as Richard Bellamy, Professor of Political Science at UCL, and a selection of cross-examiners.
Oxford Findings on Civil Litigation Costs To Be Implemented by MoJ

The findings of an Oxford study into litigation funding and costs published by the Foundation for Law, Justice and Society (FLJS) will be implemented by the UK Government in proposals to reform the funding of civil cases announced by the Ministry of Justice yesterday. The government'€™s plans come in response to recommendations by Lord Justice Jackson, whose costs review was informed by research undertaken at Oxford University into civil litigation in thirty-five countries, and published in an FLJS policy brief in September.

Major Oxford Study into Litigation Funding and Costs is Published

The findings of a major international study into the funding and costs of litigation in thirty-five countries is published today by the Foundation for Law, Justice and Society. The policy brief, the first in a series on European civil justice systems, summarizes the results of an extensive research project by a team at Oxford University to investigate the costs of litigation cases and provide recommendations for possible alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Oxford Think-Tank Critiques Means-Tested Benefit Reforms

The Foundation for Law, Justice and Society, an Oxford University affiliated think-tank, has published a series of policy briefs examining welfare policy which are largely critical of measures to tighten eligibility for employment benefits. The publications originate from an Oxford conference attended by leading policymakers and political scientists, and are published as the Conservatives announce plans to impose medical assessments on incapacity benefit claimants to reduce public spending.
President of Israeli Supreme Court Speaks Out on Rights, Security and Proportionality

Aharon Barak, former President of the Supreme Court of Israel spoke in Oxford on Thursday on 'Rights and their Limits: the Role of Proportionality', at the Annual Lecture of the Foundation for Law, Justice and Society (FLJS). The lecture, organized by FLJS in association with the Law Faculty and the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies at Oxford University, addressed the appropriate balance between security and the safeguarding of human rights.
