FLJS offers three programmes, each having been chosen for its contemporary interest and importance, through which it can explore different aspects of the role of law in contemporary society.
Rule of Law in China: Chinese Law and Business
The first programme launched by the Foundation examines the Chinese legal system and its capacity to deal with twenty-first century demands from the perspective of business activities conducted in China. This three-year programme will culminate in October with a symposium at the House of Lords, London.
Courts and the Making of Public Policy
Our second programme is central to our work, exploring the role of legal instutions in democratic society. Through 2008 and 2009, it will cover a range of issues, from the competency of courts in times of crisis to the changing role of international courts.
The Social Contract Revisted
The third and most recent programme of the Foundation aims to revisit the once prominent concept of the social contract, considering the relationship between the individual and the state in a rapidly changing, globalized world.
The breadth of our programmes constitutes a uniquely international and interdisciplinary approach to the study of law and society, of relevance to public officials, executives, legal professionals, and academics alike.
